The core concept

What is a People Ecosystem?

A People Ecosystem is the interconnected system of people, processes, data, and technology that determines how talent is attracted, developed, and retained inside an organisation. It is not a metaphor - it is a design challenge.

When the ecosystem is well-designed, talent flows naturally: the right people are in the right roles, performance is visible, development is purposeful, and succession is planned. When it is poorly designed, organisations experience high turnover, low engagement, and decisions made on incomplete data.

From chaotic complexity to ecosystem clarity

The target state

What are Sustainable People Ecosystems™?

Sustainable ecosystems are more productive because their composition utilises more of the available resources; more resilient because their design allows them to recover faster from adversity; more adaptable because their diversity provides more attributes to draw on when conditions change; and more valuable because their continuity creates long-term value for the greatest number of people.

How we work

The three-phase framework

Peopletree Group leverages research, data, and a suite of digital software and tools to build Sustainable People Ecosystems™. The work follows a three-phase sequence.

The ecosystem architecture

The six processes

A People Ecosystem is driven by six core HR processes. Each process is designed to create specific experiences for each stakeholder group. The purpose of a process is to create an experience for each stakeholder that is perceived as the benefit of participation. If the process creates the related experience, you have a healthy People Ecosystem.

Who participates

The four stakeholders

Every People Ecosystem has four distinct stakeholder groups, each with a different role and a different set of experiences they need from the ecosystem.

What makes the ecosystem possible

The four enablers

Four enablers either support or constrain each of the six processes. A People Ecosystem diagnostic assesses how well each enabler is serving each process.

The practitioner role

The role of the People Ecosystem Architect

A People Ecosystem Architect designs, builds, and sustains the conditions that allow talent to thrive. This requires four core capabilities: designing the ecosystem, building the infrastructure, sustaining the conditions, and diagnosing what is not working.
